September 2007 - Behind the Scenes: Meet the People of IGI Publishing

Businesses are made up of people, and when customers come to IGI Publishing for services, it’s our people that make the difference. With more than 40 employees, IGI’s friendly, experienced staff and management team are the secret ingredient to our continued success. We have the knowledge and skills to consistently meet your needs and exceed expectations.

Come inside IGI and get to know some members of our crew.

Sue Corns, Business Development Manager, Sales and Marketing
Sue has served in multiple capacities with IGI since joining us in 1998. Her broad background includes 12 years of experience in prepress, print production and management. While managing prepress and typesetting, she was at the forefront of IGI’s marketing efforts, promoting the company’s services and mining new leads. In early 2006 Sue began devoting herself exclusively to developing IGI’s new opportunities and increasing the company’s visibility. When not promoting IGI, Sue and her husband, Barry, enjoy spending time at their cabin.

Gary Hansen, President
Since 2000, Gary has served as president of IGI Publishing and vice president of Lerner Universal Corp, our parent company. During this time he has spearheaded our efforts to implement and integrate digital technology in new areas. His leadership and technical expertise has paid off in an expanded portfolio of customer friendly capabilities. Gary is committed to providing the highest-quality products and superior customer service.

Zach Marell, Creative Director
Zach is our resident creative genius, and brings 25 years of experience to the job. He manages the design/art department while continuing to create award winning designs for our customers. Most recently his designs garnered prestigious awards for two separate books, one receiving an award from the American Library Association, and the other receiving the Coretta Scott King Honor Award. When he’s not creating award-winning designs, Zach spends time with his wife, Polly, and his two children, Kara and David.

Tara Warren, Director of Information Technology
Tara and the intrepid IGI technology team are responsible for the company’s applications and technology infrastructure. Focusing on strategic planning, project and program management and large system implementation, Tara has more than 10 years of leadership experience in the field. She is a member of the Project Management Institute, the APICS and IEEE, and is an active board member for a national rescue foundation. Tara is the mother of two children, and married to Jeff.

Dan Wallek, Photo Research Director
Dan manages a team of photographers, researchers and photo archivists, as well as IGI’s Independent Picture Service (IPS), our division which sells photos and images from the company’s proprietary library. Dan is a current member of the International Digital Publishing Forum, and serves on the board of a middle school and a university alumni association. He and his wife Kathy have two children, Joseph and Elizabeth.

Jeanne Swartout, Prepress Manager
Jeanne has more than 15 years of experience in prepress and printing production. She specializes in PDF workflows and educating clients on how to prepare print-ready digital files. Under her direction, the prepress department utilizes their equipment, software and expertise to prepare text, art and photos for distribution in both print and electronic formats. Her department works closely with customers to achieve their creative vision for projects. In addition to speaking at seminars, Jeanne is a member of Women in Printing and Graphic Arts, the Twin Cities InDesign Users Group and an advisory board member for a technical college.
